Pakistan Monument is a national monument in Islamabad, intended to represent the country’s four provinces and three territories. Here are some interesting facts about this must-visit spot.
1. The monument’s flower form symbolizes Pakistan’s development as a fast developing country. The four major petals symbolize the four provinces (Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa), while the three smaller petals symbolize the three territories (Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas).
2. The foundation of stone was set on May 25, 2004. The complex was finished by the end of 2006 in time for its opening on March 23, 2007. More than Rs.580 million was spent on the project in total.

3. Three applications were chosen from a total of twenty submissions. Finally, the design submitted by Arif Masoud, which centered on the country’s creation and growth, was chosen for building.
4. The monument’s high elevation allows it to be seen from all around the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The monument has a total area of 2.8 hectares and is positioned at the west viewpoint of the Shakar Parian Hills.
5. Murals are painted on the inside walls of the petals. The central platform is shaped like a five-pointed star, and it is surrounded by water.
6. The star is surrounded by a metallic crescent inscribed with Muhammad Ali Jinnah quotes and Allama Iqbal poems.
7. The murals on the interior of big petals were created by a team of painters led by Kausar Jahan and Zarar Haider Babri, who spent a total of 119,000 hours on the project.
8. Pakistan Monument attracts 1500 visitors each day on average.
9. From the air, the monument resembles a star (center) and a crescent moon (made by walls creating the petals), which represent the Pakistani flag’s star and crescent.

What Do The Petals In Pakistan Monument Show?
The first petal of the national monument in Islamabad shows exquisite murals including the magnificent Faisal Mosque, Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta, Makli Necropolis in Sindh, the port city of Gawadar, and the Rohtas Fort in Jhelum.
The art on the second petal includes images of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Fatima Jinnah. The Karakorum Highway in Pakistan’s northern region, the historic Badshahi Mosque and Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, and a crowd watching Quaid-e-Azam’s speech are also included.
