Here’s a list of all famous motorways, expressways, national, and strategic highways of Pakistan, along with their names, length, location, operational status, and other important information.

List of All Motorways of Pakistan (Total Length = 3994km)

• M1: Peshawar to Islamabad motorway (Length = 155km)
• M2: Islamabad to Lahore motorway (Length = 367km)
• M3: Lahore to Abdul Hakeem, Khanewal motorway (Length = 230km)
• M4: Pindi Bhatian, Hafizabad to Multan motorway (Length = 309km)
• M5: Multan to Sukkur motorway (Length = 392km)
• M6: Sukkur to Hyderabad motorway (Length = 306km, planned)
• M7: Dadu to Hub motorway (Length = 270km, planned)
• M8: Ratodero, Larkana to Gwadar, motorway (Length = 892km, planned & partially operational)
• M9: Hyderabad to Karachi motorway (Length = 136km)
• M10: Karachi Northern By-pass motorway (Length = 57km)
• M11: Lahore to Sialkot motorway (Length = 103km)
• M12: Sialkot to Kharian motorway (Length = 70km, under construction)
• M13: Kharian to Rawalpindi motorway (Length = 117km, planned)
• M14: Islamabad to DI Khan motorway (Length = 285km, M14 is also known as Hakla – DI Khan motorway with length= 293km)
• M15: Hasan Abdal, Attock to Thakot, Battagram motorway (Length = 180km, M15 motorway is also known as Hazara Motorway)
• M16: Swabi to Chakdara motorway (Length = 160km, M16 motorway is also known as Swat Motorway)

As of now M2 or Lahore-Islamabad motorway is the longest/ largest motorway of Pakistan with a total length of 367km.

List of All Famous National Highways of Pakistan

N-5 (Karachi-Torkham Highway)

• Erstwhile GT/ Grand Trunk Road, 2,700km in 3^rd BCE
• N5/ GT Road was constructed by Mauryan Empire, Sher Shah Suri (16^th century), and then British
• It originally ran through Chittagong to Bangladesh to Kabul
• N5 highway/ GT Road now connects Karachi to Torkham in KPK (to Nangarhar) (Total length of N5/ GT Road is 1819 km)
• N5 highway/ GT Road Passes through Hyderabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Attock, Nowsehra, Peshawar, Khyber Pass, Torkham)

N-55 (Indus Highway)

• N-55/ Indus Highway Length= 1264km, runs along Indus river
• Peshawar to DG Khan to Karachi

N-35 (Karakorum Highway)

• China-Pak Friendship Highway
• Hassan Abdal, Attock, in Punjab to KPK to Khunjerab Pass in GB to Kashghar in Xinjiang
• N-35/ Karakorum Highway Length= 1300km total (887km our section)
• N-35 highway/ Karakorum Highway is located at height of 4,700 m
• Karakorum Highway is also known as the Eighth wonder of the world

N-10 (Makran Coastal Highway)

• N-10/ Makran Coastal Highway runs along Arabian Sea coast (Length= 653 km)
• From Karachi to Gwadar, passes through Ormara and Pasni

NOTE: 12,000km of 39 highways/ expressways/ motorways are under NHA (That’s 5% of total length of road network in Pakistan, which is 250,000km)

List of All Strategic Highways of Pakistan

There are 3 strategic highways in Pakistan: S1, S2, S3

• S1 highway is GB to Skardu (Length = 167km)
• S2 highway is Kohala to Muzaffarabad (Length = 40km)
• S3 highway is Muzaffarabad to Chakothi (Length = 55km)

Famous Expressways in Islamabad

E2 (Islamabad Expressway)

• N-S, 28km long
• Zero-point interchange (SA’s largest, clover leaf design) to T-Chowk in Rawat

Kashmir Highway

• E-W, 25km long
• Islamabad International Airport to E-75 Expressway (Murree Expressway)

Miscellaneous Important Roads

• Asian Highway 1 connects Japan to Turkey.
• Silk Road connects East to West, i.e. Asia to Africa and Europe. Named due to silk trade done by Han dynasty in 200BCE
