PTA Announces Pakistan’s First-Ever Cybersecurity Policy

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Thursday that the federal cabinet has sanctioned Pakistan’s first-ever Cybersecurity policy, which includes the formation of a cybersecurity agency.

According to the PTA officials, a central organization named ‘Cyber Security Agency’ will be constituted in the country to oversee and govern and concerned cyber institutions.

PTA officials also disclosed how Pegasus Spyware was used in secret surveillance and hacking around the globe, revealing how such software use zero-day exploits to monitor the two communication happening through the smartphone and can be transcribed by the hacker.

Answering the queries during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence, a PTA official apprised that the spyware cannot decrypt encrypted communication of applications such as WhatsApp.

The official further stated that Pakistan Army took prompt action after discovering espionage attempts by Pegasus Spyware and imposed restrictions on the affected smartphones.
